The Stonebridge Community Garden has been operating since 2017 and is located next to the ball diamonds in Peter Zakreski Park. A small group of volunteers and many plot owners work hard to maintain the garden.
The garden contains 33 plots (20 large, 13 small), two community plots, two raised beds, and a fruit garden. The fee for a large plot is $40/year and the fee for a small plot is $30/year. Funds from the plots go towards garden storage, supplies, plants for community plots and maintenance of the garden.
A large storage shed was donated by North Ridge Developments Corp. in 2018. Plot owners from the previous year are given the option of keeping their plot for the next growing season or giving it up before new gardeners are contacted about plots.
The Stonebridge Community Garden has been officially approved and will be moving forward! The garden will have a total of 26 plots (15 large, 10 small, and 1 community plot). The cost of a large plot is $40 per year and the cost of small plot is $30 per year. Funds from the plots will go towards garden storage, supplies, and maintenance of the garden. Registration for garden plots will be open until April 21st. Once registration closes, the plots will be drawn on a random basis and those who are awarded a plot will be notified by April 28th. Preference for garden plots will be given to Stonebridge residents. Irrigation of the garden space is expected to be completed mid-May. Once irrigation is in place, the City of Saskatoon will rototill the area. Volunteers will be needed for “spring cleanup” to remove any grass that remains, spread out compost, and stake out the pots.
If you are interested in becoming involved with the garden but have not been awarded a plot, there are many volunteer opportunities available! Please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in signing up for a 2017 garden plot or would like to volunteer.
